AUBURN, CA – Over $6,000 was raised by women’s slowpitch teams at the 20th Annual Ms. October Classic held on October 10-12. “Our event is basically a home run derby tournament as we play it on Beggs field which is actually a little league field,” said Jerry Fisher, Sports Coordinator Auburn Recreation District.
The women’s open division teams come from Nevada to San Francisco to help raise money for the Auburn Recreation District’s Youth Assistance Fund which helps under privileged children in the community.
“Every player hitting the first home run of each game receives a pumpkin and a goody bag full of fun stuff,” Fisher stated.
Incognito from Vallejo, CA won this years event 27-21 over Bat Control from Grass Valley, CA. Incognito had a 20-3 lead going into the 3rd inning but Bat Control made a pretty good run just coming up short.
This years Ms. October Trophy went to Katie Cichy of Bat Control as she hit a total of 17 home runs.
Fisher commented that this was his 18th year volunteering at this event. “The tournament is a blast with music and lots of laughs,” he said.
