FEDERAL WAY, WA – The Washington State USSSA Men’s “C” Championship was held Aug 9-10 at Celebration Park in Federal Way, Washington. There were 15 teams entered in the tournament all with aspirations to take home the state championship. Only one team accomplished this goal and that team was Seattle Mash/Castle Heating, finishing the tournament with a 5-1 record.

The Mash won their first three games, beating Fazios 20-5, Reds/Combat/Stetner 13-10 and Nu-Ray Metals 23-12. The Mash only needed one more win to advance to the title game and they went up against the other undefeated team MLT/Aldercrest. MLT/Aldercrest won their first three games against Bayon Softball 20-5, Doeflinger 13-12 and MJB Home Finance 12-10. Once the game got underway the Mash continued their winning ways by beating MLT 17-8 and advanced to the championship game. With the loss MLT dropped to the loser’s bracket but they only needed one win to get the chance to play the Mash again with the hope of getting some payback.

MJB Home Finance was standing in their way and MLT rolled to a 19-8 victory and got the chance to play the Seattle Mash for the championship. The MLT players knew they had to beat the Mash twice to take the title and knew they had to come out and play solid ball. Once the game began it was clear the players on both teams were giving it their all. The lead went back and forth but MLT was able to win the game 15-12 and forced the “if” game. It looked as if the momentum was on the side of MLT but if you asked the players from Seattle Mash they would have said different. Once the “if” game began you could tell what team had the momentum and it was the Mash. They got the hits when they needed and played some great defense. MLT could not get going and was only able to score two runs while it seemed that the Mash could score at will. When the game ended the Mash had won the game 22-2 and earned the State Championship.

William Knoppi of Seattle Mash was named the tournament MVP.
