KENT, WA – The Combat Super NIT was held in Kent, WA on June 30 and July 1 at Russell Road Park. There were a total of 30 teams entered from Washington, Oregon and Northern California all trying to earn a Super World berth.

In the Major Division Combat/Dalsanders came out on top with a perfect 5-0 record by beating Haras/Casa/Worth to take the championship. To get to the championship Combat/Dalsanders beat Doerflinger Software, A-1 Light Trucking, MJB and Headcase. Haras/Casa/Worth beat Brothers United, Vancouver USA and then lost to Headcase which sent them to the loser’s bracket. They needed to win three straight games to get back to the championship game and they did just that by beating Vancouver USA, Classic Glass/Easton and Headcase.

In the championship game Combat/Dalsanders were just too tough for Haras, but the Haras players showed that they will be a very tough team to beat at the NSA “B” Super Worlds. Haras/Casa/Worth finished with a 5-2 record and Headcase finished in third with a 3-2 record.

In the Men’s “D”/“E” portion of the tournament, Sports Page took home the championship with a 5-0 record by beating Black Diamond. To get to the title game Sports Page beat Extreme Sports Grill, Redeye Express, Sea-Tac Electric and Rage. Black Diamond finished with a 6-2 record to take second place. They lost their first game of the tournament to Rage and were sent to the loser’s bracket. They needed six straight wins to get to the championship game, a very big task, but they showed how tough they were by doing just that. Black Diamond beat Demolition Softball, Redeye Express, Repeat Offenderez, Sea-Tac Electric, Clearview and Rage before losing to Sports Page in the championship. Rage came in third with a 2-2 record.

In the Senior Division Ruth Realty beat Team Pound to take the Senior Championship.

Tournament Director, Don Cooper, put on a great weekend for all of the players and fans. There was a barbeque on Friday night and a yard sale put on by Fairweather Sports that had softball products on sale from Elite, Puma, Boombah, Worth, Easton and Combat. This gave players and fans a chance to buy equipment at great prices. Don also gave the first and second place teams in each division some great awards. The first place teams received six Combat bats and 14 pairs of batting gloves, while the second place teams received two Combat bats and 14 pairs of batting gloves.

The tournament also provided an opportunity for players and fans to play and watch the number two ranked Men’s Major Softball Team in the country Combat/Dalsanders. Everyone also got the chance to meet, talk and get autographs from three future softball Hall of Fame players playing for Combat/Dalsanders, Hank Garris, Johnny McCraw and Scott Brown. All of these players and everyone associated with the team was more than willing to talk to anyone who came up to them. Everyone associated with Combat/Dalsanders should be commended for being great ambassadors of the game.
