SPARKS, NV – The sixth annual Down-N-Dirty Triple Elimination tournament on April 21 and 22 in Sparks was a fun one with great competition and lots of fans cheering the whole way.
Team Carnage just couldn’t hold off the undefeated BFC team in the final men’s “D” game. Scoring a maximum of two runs an inning and sometimes no runs at all, Carnage couldn’t compete with BFC and ended on the short end of the 11-6 final score.
“BFC hit the ball well all weekend,” said tournament director Doug Foremaster. They proved they were in control with their undefeated 5-0 record. BFC’s offensive MVP was Billy Doyle, and all tournament selections were Angel Olivera, Dustin Beta, Billy Fresca and Kyle Walters.
Defensive MVP for Carnage was Kyle Backland and All-Tournament selections were Gabe Valasques, Happy Batton and Andrew Edson.
STB came in third place with a final record of 5-3 and ATG was in fourth place at 2-3.
For the men’s “E” division, competition was fierce. First place team, Greenwood, played the second place team, All Out, a total of four times that weekend. The first meeting was an extremely close and fast game with a score of 17-16 in All Out’s favor. The second and third time the teams played each other they went 15-13 and 8-7 with Greenwood on top.
Finally, in the championship game, Greenwood was up 8-6 coming into the fourth. The defense kicked it up a notch, when neither team was able to score in that inning. Both teams scored four runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth, but All Out’s lone run in the bottom of the seventh wasn’t enough to take the championship.
Greenwood won the game 15-13, and the title.
Offensive MVP for Greenwood was awarded to Lou Zepeda, with Nate Ackerman, Justin Shinner, H. Paxon and Todd Falcon as all-tourneys. Defensive MVP for All Out was Willie Reza, with Aaron Gaynor, Nick Dees and Shawn Salaz named all-tourneys.
Reno Dirty Birds came in third place in the tournament at 7-3 and Frozen Rope (5-3) clung to fourth place.
