HAYWARD, CA – The Super NIT World Softball Tournament on March 24 had some close competition in the men’s “C” and “D” divisions. The “D” division had a nice turnout with 16 teams participating, and the “C” division had four contestants.

In the “C” division, PAS/APS from San Jose, CA took the tournament title with a tight final game score of 10-12. Up against Team Gold, both teams played aggressive, trying hard to keep their opponents scoring to a minimum. Outfielders were spotted catching the many fly balls that went their way, and not more than three runs were scored an inning, until Team Gold scored five in the seventh. That wasn’t enough though as Team Gold got their third out with a drive up the middle that was snatched up with one hand by PAS/APS pitcher.

PAS/APS offensive MVP went to Ricky Caraballo because of his consistent hitting and his batting average of .667. All Tourneys were Gil Barrioz, Justin Flora and Aaron Gallwitz.

The “D” Division saw D&R Construction from Yuba City, CA take the top prize with a 5-0 tournament record. The score was 3-2 against MVP in the first inning of the championship, with no runs scored in the second frame. D&R scored four runs to MVP’s three in the third and fifth innings, but finally broke away with a nine run outburst in the sixth inning. Great hits by Aaron Wofford and Todd Malecha from D&R helped them score the victory with a final game score of 22-15.

That’s why Wofford was named MVP with his average of .715. And Malecha, Rick Burgess and Rodney Royer were named All Tourneys.
