SUNNYVALE, CA - The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) held its Northern California State ‘C’ and ‘D’ softball tournament championships at one of the premier softball facilities in the country, Twin Creeks Sports Complex in Sunnyvale, California. The tournament, held on the August 12th-13th, 2006 weekend brought together nearly forty of the best men’s softball squads in Northern California and Northern Nevada. Held under clear blue skies and perfect summer conditions, these state tournament draws saw the usual high level of exciting, quality play that included everything this annual tournament has come to provide.

In the ‘D’ bracket, the field consisted of thirty-eight teams. In this very competitive draw, there were many teams that displayed championship form that fell by the wayside due to the lack of a clutch hit and a costly defensive mistake that would derail their championship hopes.

When the ‘D’ bracket had run its course, one stood above the rest with a perfect 6-0 tournament record: Mid Valley Plastering. Mid Valley Plastering made its run through several top-flight teams that included Mudville Ten, Pass the Stick and a hard fought championship victory over the Outlawz 16-13 in the exciting finish of the ‘D’ bracket.

After Mid Valley Plastering, the second place Outlawz went 5-2. Third place finisher EMCI/CO2 finished at 7-2. EMCI/CO2 lost an early round game and had to play their way back through the loser’s side of the draw and just ran out of gas after being on the field for nearly two straight days. Pass the Stick, posted a fourth place finish with a 4-2 tournament record. NorCal/Cockygear who landed in the fifth place slot also had a nice tournament run with a 5-2 mark.
In the ‘C’ division, the bracket drew only five teams. At the top were two teams that finished one-two at the Western Shootout in Reno, Nevada held just two weekends earlier.

Just as in Reno it was the J&E/DWC/DSS Bats who took home the championship hardware. J&E topped the standings with a 3-1 record, while Lockdown was again unable to take down their newest rival. Lockdown finished at 3-2. Third place at 2-2 was OC Volvo, fourth place at 1-2 was Team Premier and the usually strong Arsenal brought up the rear at 0-2.
