ELK GROVE, CA - The Western Shootout tournament series continued its tour with a stop in Elk Grove, CA at the Kloss Park Sports Complex for this ASA sanctioned event. The weekend of May 13th -14th saw warm temperatures and sunny skies for the eleven teams vying for berths to the ASA Nationals later this summer at Twin Creeks in Sunnyvale, California.
In a tournament that could have seen several different teams capture the title if they had gotten the right bounce of the ball, one squad had enough to get the right result at the right time. Team CO2 was able to get to the championship game through the loser’s bracket and take down the undefeated Outlawz in the championship game to win the title and continue their string of successful early season results.
Team CO2 finished with a 5-1 record in a tournament that had six other teams finish with three victories apiece. The Outlawz finished in second place with a 3-1 record while TBA came in third place with a 3-2 record. NorCal, Casa Lupe, B2B and Dynamax finished in spots fourth through seventh with identical 3-2 tournament records.
This Western Shootout was a tournament that was a case of the have and have nots as the bottom four teams, Jack’s Dental, All 4 One, Bashers and California Impact combined for the 1-12 record.
CO2 team members Christian Rodriguez and Leonard Skattaboo garnered all tournament selections. The Outlawz Heath Shine and Tyler Stoklasa received all tourney nods and TBA placed Shane Alvarado and Marcus Jaime on the all tournament team.
The berths to the ASA Nationals at Twin Creeks were awarded to the Outlawz and TBA as CO2 had already earned their berth from an earlier tournament this spring.
The Western Shootout series continues throughout the summer at venues all across Northern California and Nevada.
