SACRAMENTO, CA - The Greater Sacramento Softball Association (ASA) recently hosted their annual year-end League Championship Series. The LCS is now in its 19th year and has become one of the largest adult ASA softball tournaments in the Western United States. It’s unique tournament style is an event where league championship teams, that are hosted by local parks and recreation agencies, compete against each other in an effort to become the Sacramento area LCS Champion. The tournament format is a weekend of pool play to determine which teams in men’s, women’s and co-ed divisions will advance to a second weekend that is a double elimination bracket to ultimately determine champions in those various divisions.

The co-ed division had a seventy-five team field spread out over four different round robin brackets where the top two finishers in each of the four brackets would advance to the double elimination tourney the following weekend.

In the co-ed American finals Jimboys Tazmaniacs had enough to hold off a feisty Softball Junkies squad to win the American division title. Jimboys went undefeated notching a perfect 5-0 to claim the champion’s trophy. Jimboys defeated Softball Junkies 19-18 in eight innings in a thrilling championship final. The Softball Junkies finished with a 7-2 tourney mark to land in second place with Chaos finishing in third with a 3-2 tournament record.

In the co-ed Recreational finals the class of the tourney field were Just Us who posted a 6-0 tournament mark to dominate the field. Just Us combined solid hitting with just enough pitching to record the unblemished tournament run. Cruise Control finished in second place with an 8-2 tourney mark. Cruise Control lost early in the tourney and had to make their run through the loser’s bracket before falling to Just Us 10-4 in the title game. 12 Pack, who finished with a 4-2 record, came in third place.

The women’s double elimination tourney had a twenty-four team field spread over three divisions that each played in a double elimination bracket to determine the three women’s champions.

Lady Rage won the National division with a perfect 4-0 record. Lady Rage defeated Bad Girls 5-4 in an exciting championship finale. Bad Girls finished with a 3-2 record to place second, with OD’s rounding out the top three finishing with a 2-2 record.

Hit & Runs claimed the American division title with a 5-1 record. Hit & Runs edged out a scrappy SHL Softball squad 3-2 in a defensive championship game battle. SHL went 2-2 to finish second, while Pain & Suffering finished in third place.
The women’s Recreation division saw Team Angels win the title with a 3-0 record. The Angels defeated the Rascals 10-9 to take home the champions hardware. The Rascals finished with a 2-2 tournament record. Third place went to Donahoo Roofing.

The men’s tourney brackets played to a sixty-four team field. After the pool play was completed the top finishers from each of the separate six pool brackets were seeded and those sixteen teams competed for the men’s National, American and Recreation division champions trophies.

The men’s National division championship, with a record of 5-1, went to Roseville’s Back to Back. Back to Back edged out second place finisher Jack’s Dental 17-7 in the championship ‘IF’ game. Jack’s Dental posted a 4-2 record and Vy Koe Den finished in third with a 3-2 tournament mark.

Just Win Baby who rolled to a perfect 6-0 tournament record outlasted a tough Irishman squad winning the championship game 13-10 to win the men’s American division. The Irishman went 5-2 to claim second place and Pizza Guys who also went 5-2 for the tournament filled the third place slot.

The men’s Recreation division went to WK Design who finished with 6-1 tournament record and outpaced Team Dominion by the score of 6-3 in the final. Dominion posted a 6-2 tournament record.
